Expectations of Liaquat Ali Khan
After the creation of Pakistan, Liaquat Ali Khan (The first prime minister of Pakistan) visited America and delivered speeches at different universities. In one of his speeches at Kansas University, he explained clearly the circumstances that caused the creation of Pakistan.
In the last of his speech, he expressed what he and his people are expecting from America and the Western countries to help the developing countries of Asia.
For the sake of world peace, for the sake of world civilization, Asia must be made stable and it cannot be made stable unless discontent is removed and the germs of disruption are killed by better and cleaner living which means no more no less than enabling the people of Asia to enjoy the fullest advantages of freedom and democracy.
He expressed his views before the Western World to help the Asian and other countries of the world who are lagging in the field of education, art, science, and technology. He attracted their attention to the fact that for the last two or three centuries, Asian countries have been under the rule of colonial powers.
He further focused that the West with the tools of science and technology utilized their resources and brought improvement for their people. They got success in civilization, industry, and science. There is a huge difference between the living standards of Asian countries and the West.
The difference between both nations has created discrimination and disturbance in the peace of the world. The advanced countries could play their role in uplifting the poor nations from poverty but it could not be happened.
The actual demand from the Western world is to contribute to transferring knowledge, skills, and experience to underdeveloped countries. They should play the role of promoting world peace and maintaining democracy.
We conceive the role of the western world to be the enlightened one of sharing its great fund of knowledge, skill, and experience with those who were denied their opportunities but who constitute a major part of the world.
He emphasized the need to build a real democracy that is international and against aggressiveness. The West must stabilize the roots of democracy in Pakistan. They must spread peace all across the globe.
He expected them to promote civil liberty in Asian countries. To him, they must encourage the masses of underdeveloped parts of the world. He put his viewpoint before them and suggested that they must help Pakistan in making it a democratic country.
He pointed out that there were various deprived, backwards, and financially weak nations in Asia. Among them, Pakistan is the only unified country all around. The reason is it’s people who are strong, valorous, courageous, diligent, and committed to performing their best.
He focussed that the West could uplift the deprived nations by sharing their great fund of knowledge, skill, and experience in different fields. Pakistan can bring peace and prosperity if the West shares knowledge and experience with Pakistan. They could help the people of Pakistan by removing poverty, disease, and ignorance.
