33000+ Scholarships for Deserving Students in Punjab Approved

Punjab Zakat and Ushr Council have recently given its approval for 33,370 scholarships to be awarded to deserving students. Among these, 15,785 scholarships will be granted to students pursuing Intermediate, BS, and Postgraduate studies, as well as those enrolled in professional institutions offering medical, engineering, and computer science programs.

The 27th meeting of the Zakat and Ushr Council Punjab was conducted under the leadership of Secretary Mian Abrar Ahmed.

During the meeting, participants endorsed the minutes of the 26th session of the Zakat and Ushr Council, where several issues were discussed, including the granting of educational scholarships.

For deserving pupils from 334 educational institutions distributed across 36 districts in Punjab. , a  total of 15,785 scholarships were approved. The total value of these scholarships, known as general educational scholarships, exceeded 133.4 million rupees.

Additionally, an allocation of more than 12 million and 2 lakh rupees was also sanctioned to 17,585 deserving students enrolled in 171 religious madaris situated in 28 districts.

The Government of Punjab’s Zakat and Ushr  Education Stipend (general) scholarship program is intended to provide financial aid to meritorious students in order to help them continue their education.

Eligibility for Zakat and Ushr Department Scholarship

Poor and worthy students enrolling in accredited colleges, universities, polytechnic institutes, and other academic and professional institutions inside Punjab are given stipends.

The eligibility criteria (Istehqaq) are determined by Local Zakat Committees and subsequently approved by the scholarship committee of the respective educational institute. The scholarship committee consists of the Head of the Institution, a Class Teacher, and a representative nominated by the District Zakat Committee.

How to Apply

To apply for the scholarship, a deserving student should submit their application to the institution’s head. The Istehqaq, or eligibility, will be determined by the local Zakat committee. Once approved, the District Zakat Committee will release the funds to the respective educational institution, which will then disburse the payment to the student.
