Role as a Communications Intern

If you are selected as a communications intern, you will be a key player in creating compelling content and bringing UNICEF’s mission to life. Here is a list of responsibilities. 

Media & Content Support

  • Craft and edit communication pieces: think social media captions, blog posts, and real human interest stories.
  • Take up global content for Costa Rican audiences,  ensuring it sounds local and meaningful.
  • Help to collect and arrange photos, videos, and testimonials from UNICEF-supported programs.

Digital & Social Media Communication

  • Create content for UNICEF Costa Rica’s website and social media platforms.
  • Design visual materials using social media tools like Canva, infographics, quote cards, and more.

Event & Logistics Support

  • Help with planning and logistics for events like workshops, campaigns, or media visits.
  • Document events through summaries and photos.

Keep media and influencer contact lists organized and up to date.

Who Can Apply?

You can apply if:

Enrollment in (or recently graduated from) a program in:

  • Communications
  • Journalism
  • Marketing
  • Public Relations
  • Graphic Design
    …or any related field.

Passionate about:

  • Digital storytelling
  • Children’s rights
  • Media for social good

Skilled in:

  • Social media basics (Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, etc.)
  • Microsoft Office
  • Canva, Adobe Suite, or video editing tools (a bonus!)

 Plus:

  • You’re organized, a good writer, and detail-oriented.
  • English proficiency is desirable, but not mandatory.

Conditions For Interns:

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Location: San José, Costa Rica
  • Duration: 6 months (Full-Time)
  • Stipend: Yes — it’s a paid internship!
  • Logistics: Interns must arrange their visa (if required) and have health insurance valid for the full internship.
  • COVID-19: Vaccination may be required if your work involves visiting UNICEF sites or interacting with communities.
