The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has launched its Paid Internship program for 2024 which provides an excellent opportunity for graduate students to gain valuable experience and learn about the inner workings of ADB.
Applications are now open for ADB internships. The successful applicants will join as interns in January 2024. ADB is excited to welcome motivated and open-minded individuals to apply. Notably, IELTS scores are not mandatory for the Asian Development Bank Internship.
What is ADB Internship Program?
The Internship Program presented by ADB is designed as a project-oriented learning experience created for graduate students. It provides valuable exposure through research assignments that address ADB’s current operational requirements.
ADB announces internship assignments biannually and enthusiastically encourages applications from motivated, open-minded, and self-directed individuals.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) provides internship opportunities twice a year for enrolled Master’s and Ph.D. level students. These internships predominantly take place at the ADB Headquarters in the Philippines.
Eligibility for internship
- enrollment in a Master’s or Ph.D. program before and after the internship at a university in one of the ADB member countries.
- Active involvement in academic study directly related to ADB’s areas of work.
- Nationality from one of ADB’s member countries.
- Proficiency in English, demonstrating excellent command of the language.
- Possessing relevant professional experience suitable for the internship assignment.
Applying Procedure
The internship application process is online and is conducted through the ADB Career and Employment System (ACES). Candidates are no longer required to go through school registration or nomination.
Selection Criteria
The selection process for the internship program involves the following steps:
- Eligible candidates apply through the ADB Career and Employment System (ACES).
- The available assignments are listed on ADB’s website so that applicants can select ones that suit their interests.
- On ACES, candidates complete their applications, including writing their CVs and essay replies.
- All required documents, such as CVs and essays, are uploaded to ACES to finalize the application.
- Applications received after the deadline will not be taken into account. To ensure a smooth submission process, applicants are advised not to wait until the last day of the application period.
- Applications are evaluated by ADB based on a number of criteria, such as eligibility, the applicability of educational and professional experience, and the degree of enthusiasm and motivation to participate in development activities. Furthermore, ADB takes into account variables including institutional representation, gender balance, and nationality balance when choosing interns overall.
- Only shortlisted applicants will be called for further steps in the selection process.
Financial Benefits
- Stipend: All interns will receive a stipend based on the location of their internships, lasting up to 26 weeks.
- Airfare Ticket: The Asian Development Bank will provide a limited amount to cover travel costs for airfare. Air travel from the intern’s home country to the assigned country is mandatory.
